VectoPrime® FG is a biological mosquito larvicide containing two active ingredients, Bti (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis) and `(s)-methoprene` , which target mosquito larvae in water. Its BioFuse™ technology integrates these ingredients into each microparticle, offering control over all larval stages and providing a broader, more flexible application window. VectoPrime FG can be used in various standing water habitats, such as ditches, ponds, and marshes, for both post-flood and, in some cases, pre-flood mosquito control.
Key Features & Benefits
Dual Action:
Combines Bti (a bacterium that targets early larvae) and (s)-methoprene (an insect growth regulator for later larvae).
BioFuse™ Technology:
Ensures both active ingredients are in each particle for consistent control across all four larval instars.
Wider Application Window:
Controls mosquitoes at different life stages, including both early and late instars, in a single application.
Biorational:
Highly specific against mosquito larvae and not harmful to non-target organisms like fish or birds.
Flexibility:
Can be applied post-flood for existing larvae or pre-flood (up to 7 days in some cases) in habitats with predictable flooding patterns.
Visible Results:
Quick kills are often visible within 24 hours, making it easy to observe efficacy.
How it Works
When VectoPrime FG microparticles are applied to water, they quickly release their active ingredients.
Bti spores produce toxins that kill mosquito larvae.
(S)-methoprene disrupts the molting process, preventing mid to late-instar larvae from developing into adult mosquitoes.
Applications
VectoPrime FG is used to control mosquito larvae in a variety of habitats, including:
Irrigation ditches and roadside ditches
Floodwater and standing ponds
Livestock watering ponds
Woodland pools and snow melt pools
Pastures and catch basins
Tidal and salt marshes
Important Considerations
Safety:
While risk to the public is minimal, avoid direct contact with treated water. Always follow application directions.
Application Equipment:
The product is a fine granule, so application equipment must be calibrated properly.
Effectiveness:
Pre-flood application effectiveness can vary depending on factors like weather, and it is recommended to test on a small scale first.

VectoPrime FG is considered a resistance management tool because it provides complete control of mosquito larvae across all developmental stages (instars), targeting multiple mosquito species with two different active ingredients, though it is also a Group 7A and 11 insecticide, meaning natural resistance could still occur. The rotation of insecticides, which includes the use of products like VectoPrime FG, is a standard resistance management strategy to prevent resistant individuals from dominating the population.
· The insecticides used are known as contact sprays. As the name implies, the insecticide must contact the mosquito in order to eliminate it.
· The insecticides do not keep mosquitoes away or repel them from an area. Adult mosquitoes that migrate into an area after spraying are not eliminated, and it could appear that the spraying was ineffective. The insecticides used to control mosquitoes are non-persistent, meaning they do not have a residual or lasting effect. They last only a short period of time, and they quickly biodegrade into harmless byproducts.
